What is a folding arm?

Most people are familiar with street light poles, because they can be seen everywhere, but there are some street light poles that many people are not familiar with, that is, "folding arm poles". The reason why they are not well known is that they are currently mainly used in ordinary railways or high-speed railways.

Folding arm poles, as the name implies, are street light poles that can bend freely like arms. The main body of this type of pole differs from ordinary streetlight poles in design. We have previously introduced relevant knowledge about street light poles. We know that it is very troublesome to repair street light poles when there are problems with the light source. Scaffolding can be used for those below 7 meters, and mechanical lifts are required for those above 7 meters. However, the folding arm function of the folding arm pole can show its advantages in lamp maintenance. Neither scaffolding nor lifting equipment is needed for lamp head maintenance or repair. Its ingenious design structure and convenient operation and maintenance are all praised by people.

What is a folding arm?

The folding arm function of the folding arm can be achieved in two ways. The most commonly used ones are gear type and spring type.

I.Gear: The folding arm position of the folding arm is usually about 1.5 meters above the flange, that is, the central axis of the upper section and the lower section are designed at that position. Its working principle is to use the manual crank to shake the lower section of the horizontal gear to drive the upper section of the longitudinal gear to achieve the purpose of lifting. This kind of gear structure folding arm lamp pole has a small disadvantage. It is very easy to fold the upper section of the lamp pole downward, and one person can do it. However, when it rises upward, it is difficult for one person to shake it up due to the effect of gravity. At this time, one more person needs to stand at the position of the lamp head and drag it up a little to play a role as a booster until the upper section exceeds 45° before one person can operate it.

II. Spring type: The spring-type folding arm is more user-friendly in design and simpler than the gear structure. Its working principle mainly adopts the lever principle, with a spring as an auxiliary device. Half of the total length of the upper section is in the lower section. The purpose of this is to make the total length center line of the upper section the central axis connected to the lower section as much as possible, thus forming a natural lever effect. Some people may ask: "How can the lamp head be so heavy and the bottom so light to play the role of a lever?" This question is very well asked. There are many ways. The simplest way is to counterweight. We can reasonably counterweight the lower half of the upper section. The biggest advantage of this structure is that when there is a problem with the lamp, only one maintenance personnel is needed to complete the task. Of course, if the counterweight is unreasonable, it will be difficult to operate.

No matter what form the folding arm appears in, it is much stronger than the ordinary street light pole because it is very simple to maintain, but the complex structure naturally leads to a high price, which is also the main reason why it is not widely used.

Another point is that there is a limitation on the height of the light pole. This structure is only suitable for poles below 6 meters. If these functions are applied to medium pole lights, they will not work. However, I think that it is necessary to choose the folding arm type for lower street light poles. Of course, this also requires the relevant street light pole manufacturers to give the maximum preferential standards to make it popular.
